Montclare

The area was originally land bought by William Sayre in what was then Jefferson Township through a land sale. By the 1870s, the area saw the extension of the railroad into the area, and the development of housing naming the area after Montclare, New Jersey.

Though it was still largely rural upon annexation to Chicago in 1889, a couple of decades later in 1912, streetcars were extended into the area along with Tudor homes

After the 50’s there was an increase in brick bungalows in the area, attracting new residents with the suburban feel of the area, while still being in the city.

The Metra runs along the southern border of the neighborhood and is close by other suburban areas such as Oak Park.
