The North Center neighborhood was first settled towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by Germans working in the city’s industrial areas along Ravenswood, which has since been converted into many mixed use spaces and artist studios and the industrial facilities located on the riverfront.
A vibrant neighborhood, North Center has a diverse mix of shops, restaurants, nightlife and attractions. Many residents move here to due to the schools in the area, which are considered some of the most desirable in the city.
North Center offers a variety of housing options ranging from riverfront properties along the Chicago River to single family homes including Victorians with wrap-around porches. Many of the historic buildings have been rehabbed through the years, with many apartment complexes converted into condominiums.
