O'Hare

Originally called, Orchard Place the small area was used in 1942 for the manufacture of cargo planes by the Douglas Aircraft Company. After World War II however, the facilities were transformed into a commercial airport facility to be used by the City of Chicago. Through the years, it eventually became O’Hare International Airport, named after aviator Edward H. O’Hare.

It is only one of two areas, to be revised as an official community area since the late 20’s due to the importance and annexation of the airport.

Along with the airport, corporate complexes are found in the area, due to the convenience of the airport, expressways, as well as hotels, restaurants and transportation.

The I-90 passes through the area, as well as the CTA Blue Line which connects O’Hare to downtown Chicago, passing through several other neighborhoods along the way.
